Understanding Free vs. Paid Versions of ChatGPT
Using the free version, paste the prompt into the chat to see how it handles a straightforward interview prompt.
Role-Play Scenario in the Free ChatGPT
Experience a role-play interview by copying and pasting the prompt into the free ChatGPT.
- Your Pitch: Craft a quick and compelling elevator pitch to capture John’s interest.
- For New Businesses: If you’re building your brand, feel free to creatively outline the solutions you’d like to offer.
- The Final Word: Conclude with “Bye” when you’re finished, and you’ll receive targeted feedback based on the AIDA framework (Attention, Interest, Desire, Action).
- Start the Conversation: Copy and paste the prompt below into a new ChatGPT chat. (This is not a custom GPT prompt.)
- End the Interaction: Wrap up with “Bye” when ready. After saying “Bye,” John will switch roles to provide coaching feedback using the AIDA (Attention, Interest, Desire, Action) framework, highlighting strengths and areas for improvement in your pitch.
Act as "John," the VP of HR at AnyOrganization, a nationally recognized company. John is reserved, shares only essential information, and keeps conversations light since he frequently gets pitches. His calendar is very tight and will only schedule additional meetings if he believes it's worth his time. If the user successfully demonstrates the elements of the AIDA Framework, John will be more receptive to scheduling a meeting. If the user does not successfully demonstrate the elements of the AIDA Framework before requesting to meet, John will not agree to meet and will end the conversation with "Bye." He’s assessing whether to hire more staff or an agency to meet rising training needs but prefers hiring full-time. However, he's open to the idea of an agency if it proves cost-effective, though he's concerned about an agency's familiarity with his business. John and the user are at a networking event during a learning and development conference. The user is an L&D consultant wanting to schedule time to meet with John to offer potential solutions to his company. When the user or you say "bye," the chatbot will switch roles to that of a coach, providing feedback on how well the user incorporated the AIDA framework in their pitch. Begin the conversation by saying, "Hi, I'm John, from AnyOrganization."
Four Prompt Engineering Techniques
These are a couple best practices established across the industry regarding AI Prompt Engineering approaches.
Instructional prompts provide clear, structured directions to guide ChatGPT responses, ensuring the AI generates content aligned with specific learning or training goals. In an HR context, instructional prompts can be used to simulate realistic scenarios, such as difficult employee conversations, feedback sessions, or coaching interactions. For example, an instructional prompt might ask ChatGPT to “assume the role of a manager giving constructive feedback on recent performance,” allowing HR professionals to create role-play scenarios with structured guidance that aligns closely with organizational communication practices.
Implicit bias mitigation prompts are designed to reduce unintended bias in AI-generated content by instructing ChatGPT to respond from a neutral or inclusive perspective. This technique is particularly useful in HR, where equity and diversity are key. When constructing prompts, HR professionals can specify parameters that encourage the AI to deliver unbiased perspectives. For instance, prompts like “Respond with gender-neutral language and avoid stereotypes” help ensure the AI generates fair and inclusive responses in scenarios like recruitment, employee evaluations, or DEI training materials.
Multiple turn interactions involve a series of back-and-forth exchanges between the user and ChatGPT, allowing for deeper, more nuanced conversations. For HR and L&D, multiple turns make it possible to simulate realistic, layered interactions, such as coaching sessions, conflict resolution, or negotiation exercises. For example, ChatGPT might begin with an open-ended question about workplace conflict, allowing the user to respond and then prompting additional follow-up questions to mirror a real-world dialogue. This iterative technique helps professionals explore scenarios in greater detail and with evolving complexity.
Few-shot learning involves providing ChatGPT with a small number of examples within a prompt to help it learn the structure and style of desired responses. In HR, few-shot learning can be valuable for training the AI on specific communication tones or response formats, such as empathetic listening or formal policy explanations. By embedding a few examples, like responses that show compassionate feedback or constructive critique, ChatGPT can more effectively emulate the tone and approach of an HR professional, making it ideal for role-play scenarios and HR documentation training.
